Moments, memory and your privacy

What Spekko™ remembers, the moments he keeps when you love something, and where it all lives.

Your data stays on your computer

Spekko's memory, chats, skills and moments live on his home computer, in a database in your own user folder. Your phone and other devices reach it through an encrypted relay that can't read your messages. Keys live in your computer's secure store, never in the cloud.

To think, Spekko sends the conversation of the moment to the AI service you've connected. He doesn't send it anywhere else.

Memory

He learns lasting things from what you tell him: "you like window seats", "Sam rides at 8".

  • Anything sensitive waits for your OK before he keeps it.
  • He never stores passwords or card numbers.
  • He doesn't learn from web pages or from what's on your screen.
  • You can see, pin, edit and forget anything in Memory, on any device. Forget really deletes it.

Moments

When you clearly love something ("perfect", "that's exactly it", "lock it"), Spekko keeps a moment. It holds two things: what you liked and why, and a bookmark that freezes the exact version you loved (the files, links and version it was at). So when you later say "do it like the one I loved", he works from that version, not whatever it turned into later.

The frozen copy is kept on his home computer, in his own folder, never in the cloud. Small files are copied as they were; for big ones he keeps a fingerprint and the version they were at.

You can also say "bookmark this" at any time. Ask "what did I love about the website?" to see them. Forget a moment and its frozen copy is deleted too.

Take it with you, or delete it

  • Export everything saves all he knows to a folder on your computer. Device tokens and keys are never in it.
  • Skills and routines can be exported as a file and imported into another Spekko. See Skills and routines.
  • Delete everything wipes his memory and history. You'll type "delete everything" to confirm; your devices stay paired.

Notifications

If you allow notifications on your iPhone, the phone gives Spekko a token, the address Apple uses to reach it. Spekko keeps it on the home computer for that phone only. When something new needs you, a short line about it goes through Spekko's notification service to Apple, which delivers it. Nothing is stored on the way. Remove the phone, or turn notifications off in iPhone Settings, and the token is dropped.

Backups and updates

On the Mac, Spekko makes an encrypted backup every day and keeps the newest seven, in iCloud Drive if you use it. The backup key stays in your Keychain.

When Spekko updates and needs to change how his data is laid out, he first copies it on the same computer. If the update can't finish, he puts everything back exactly as it was and tells you nothing was lost.

The off switch

The kill switch in the Mac's menu bar and in iPhone Settings stops him taking any new requests at once.
